Guide: Fire Mage 4.3

Welcome to my guide to playing a Fire Mage in 4.3. It is finally here the post everyone has been waiting for.

Behind the Scenes of Ignasia
Do you like to see things explode? Do you wish you could actually move during a fight? Do wish not to see the same 2 damn spell buttons? If you answered 'Yes' to any or all of these, I think you need to respec. You know who you are, all those Arcane Mages... (I will not bash on Frost Mages, who are some scary players mainly one by the name of Ala-something from The STIG.)

STATS
From most important to least...

INT - I imagine this stat is a given, any person playing any sort of spell caster knows Intelligence is the most important stat out there. It does anything from increasing our Mana pool to increasing our Critical Strike chance as well as Spell Power.

Hit Rating - Sadly in Cataclysm this became the second more important stat for all classes (except healers). With out Hit Rating, you are able to miss while attacking any mobs of equal level or higher. For Mages with their Ranged Spells the Max Hit Rating needed is 17%. Anymore after said percent is useless and will not effect you.

Spell Power - Seriously who doesn't want to do more damage? This is mainly found on weapons and trinkets so don't go looking for it on random gear.

Haste / Crit - For my current build I made sure that my Haste was soft capped* at 12.5% so that I get an extra tick off my DOTs. After I made that soft cap, I started dumping all the rest of my stats into Crit. I much perfer more Crit over haste to hopefully proc more Pyroblasts and increase the damage done by my Combustion.

Mastery - This is the least needed stat and due to it, I just use it to reforge into something else that I need. Like currently with my gear, I needed to up my Hit Rating to the current cap so I took from Mastery till I had enough for 17%.

TALENTS
I honestly don't want to spend time with going over what each talent is and why its important. Here is my current spec and you can choose to read through each talent while you copy feel free to. I would MUCH advise it.
Current Fire Spec Talent Tree
One thing I will mention cause I've had people already ask me why not Improved Fire Blast? 1. I don't use said spell that often except for AOE rotation. 2. I would rather go with Piercing Ice from the Frost Tree which increases Critical Strike chance of all spells by 3%.

GLYPHS
Again, like the talents there is no point to sit and explain each thing. However, I would like to mention that there are very few 'required' glyphs for this spec most are player preferences. The ones I find to be required are Glyph of Pyroblast, Glyph of Fireball, Glyph of Molten Armor, and Glyph of Dragon's Breath (for increase AOE damage).

Fire Spec Glyphs
ROTATION
I will like to mention this is all just how I play my Fire Mage so there are other ways out there that work (some even better) but it all based on Player Preference. The reason I do it this way is because I run into a lot of Fire Mages that seem to try to over complicate things. I find my way to be very simple and effective.

- REQUIRED ADDON: Combustion Helper -

***First things first, you want to make sure that at all times Arcane Brilliance and Molten Armor is on you.***

Single Target: I start all fights by casting Flame Orb then Living Bomb and then straight into a hard cast Pyroblast for the Critical Mass talent to kick in. You can use Scorch as well but I prefer the bigger hit that Pyroblast does. Once I completed this rotation and have Critical Mass on said target, I go into spamming Fireball. I make sure as well to refresh Living Bomb right when it falls off the target. At this point I'm hoping for Pyroblast procs in which the spell icon will glow and a spell effect will pop up along the right and left of your character. If I haven't gotten a proc in quite some time I will hard cast Pyroblast to go for a Combustion. (If you are running Combustion helper the box will light up in green when all three dots/effects are running on the target.) For those with mana issues, the above rotation will likely cause you to be out of mana A LOT. To fix the problem it is good to add a few Scorches into the Fireball rotation. How many Scorches you need to cast compared to Fireballs will be based on your gear and mana. To start off with try a part rotation of 2-3 Scorches per Fireball.

AOE Targets: For when there are multiple mobs, I will still start off the fight with a Flame Orb. However, this time instead of only targeting one with Living Bomb, I target 3. I proceed to then spam Blast Wave when it is off cooldown and Flamestrike. Something very important with Flamestrike is the damage over time effect is has. Waiting until the dot falls off the mobs will not only increase the damage on them but also conserve mana. So don't go trigger happy with Flamestrike, it is ineffective spell and mana wise. I will still cast Fireball while waiting for Flamestrike's dot to fall off as well as re-Living Bomb 3 targets. Included in all this is to still pay attention to your Combustion. I won't use it for small trash groups like Troggs and such. However, if you are able to get off a Combustion (while doing AOE or even in a 2-3 target fight) and you can Impact (the proc for Fire Blast) another target it will spread your Combustion (Fire DOTs) over to said Impact Target. I will use Dragon's Breath as well, but mainly if the mobs are stacked tight and in front of me, due to it only being a cone effect.

A big tip for all of this is to know the fights. If you don't know the fights, how are you going to know when you can stand and DPS your little heart out without dying to Boss Effects around you. Knowing when to use cool downs like Mirror Image and Time Warp (and Trinkets) will GREATLY effect your damage. So please do the research of the fight before walking in saying 'I'm the best Fire Mage there is!'.

-----
If there is anything that I have missed that you would like me to go over, please leave me a comment and I will get back to you. I want to state again this is not professionally done, this is just me playing my class. Less QQ more Pew Pew!!!

If You Fail...

Downing Warlord Zon'ozz with our 10 man core group.
Downing Yor'sahj the Unsleeping with out 10 man core group.

Instead of 'if you fail, try, try again.' its more like 'if you fail, switch to 10 man'. Tonight we tried again to down the second boss in Dragon Soul on 25 man. But again, it didn't work. With everyone getting frustrated they decided to call it a night... however, the night wasn't over, by far. Two 10 man groups decided to try to take down that in which they couldn't. And did.

My new theme song

Once again I was randomly surfing through the vast world of Youtube when I happened to come across this piece of work. Who ever came up with this is a genius! It is very nicely made.

On a side note:
I'm excited I'm back to playing Ignasia (Mage) again! It feels so great to be able to sling Fireballs again. I hated playing a Mage for the better part of Cataclysm now because as soon as Firelands came out it was suddenly Arcane this, Arcane that. >< I mean, makes sense seeing that you can't exactly take down fire with fire but -shrugs- it's only a game. But once again Fire is the ruling spec! It was great to walk into a dungeon and see that even in 362 shit gear I was out doing most other Mages who were in complete Tier 12. So because of this and seeing that so many people are now trying to figure out how to play a Fire Mage I will be doing a Fire Mage Guide in the next several days. I warn you this will not be from Elitist jerks or any other 'professional' site. This will be merely how I play my Fire Mage. So look for it in upcoming posts!

I do want to make a HUGE shout out to all of you who remember Magiere (Remy), today is his 31st Birthday! Tomorrow is my 22nd birthday but we won't go there, I hate the fact I'm going into the twenties.

New Is Not Always Better

First boss down in Dragon Soul!
Finally, patch 4.3 came out yesterday. Everyone flooded back online for the new content, new dungeons, and of course new raids. I was surprised come Wednesday there was no lag on the servers while Lords of Havoc did their weekly raid. As discussed in a meeting that was held days prior, we decided we were going to join the ranks of the 25 man raiding guilds starting for Dragon Soul. The raid itself went very well as we downed the first boss on our first attempt. However, the second boss after SEVERAL attempts gave us great issues. We called it a night on the second boss to pick up later in the week.

Review on Patch 4.3
As many may know I have now three level 85 characters. (Priest, Mage and Paladin) My Priest walking into patch 4.3 was already very well geared. It made getting into the Random Raid Finder very easy and a breeze to get through. Really almost too easy, the group I had blew through the first four bosses like it was nothing, with not a single wipe. (I also did manage to get my Priest some very sexy loot, her teir 13 Head Piece.) My Mage who I hadn't played since the start of Firelands was sitting at an item level of 359. It only took a day to get her to item level 373. I was rather upset with how quick it took. I sat playing my Priest for months getting her finally to 370+ and in literally only a day my Mage was right there beside her. I feel like we were sent back to Wrath of the Lich King. Here, be able to take down all these bosses with no skill and effort at all. To be honest, I'm already bored of this patch. I've run the new dungeons to death already and maxed out my Valor Point on both my Priest and Mage in under two days. Now, the only fun I'm having is getting my Paladin geared up to be able to do the same thing. I'm sure this patch will give me a lot of time to work on my other toons or even find a new hobby in real life.

Haters Gotta Hate

I wonder if it so happens to be Razorwind on Something Awful. Hmmm?
Okay, so out of curiosity I decided to go through my dashboard and figure out where I was getting page views from. One of the top sites was 'Something Awful'. I was like 'Hmmm' and proceeded to click the link to the forum thread. I died of laughter for a good hour straight. Well apparently I must be doing something right because there are haters out there for this blogsite. All I got to say is -thumbs up- Thanks for the Page Views! ^^

Running with a P.U.G.

Downing Majordomo

Flasking up for some Rag attempts with Relic.
With the patch 4.3 quickly approaching I decided I wanted to finish out my Firelands lock. So what did I do? Spam trade chat, and boy did I hit the jackpot. I got in a guild run with an awesome guild by the name of Relic. We managed to get down Majordomo but sadly Ragnaros was a no go for the night. It was still very fun to hang out with such awesome people. (I learned that you can put a feast ontop of the points at Rag's platform. Which was amusing to see the goblins having to jump for it. Lol.)

Two Heads Are Better Than One

Well, it might not have been graceful but we got 25 Man Shannox down.
25 Man Baleroc Down.

Guild Update
H'okay, so here is the latest guild update. (This is to clear up any rumors or educate those without said knowledge.) So this week Lords of Havoc decided to play mad scientist and try an experiment. Well, it turned out different than hoped but still with good results. Lords of Havoc decided that they were going to play nice and merge with another guild named Mixed Nutz. And to figure out how well we would mesh, a 25 man was formed! In the end, the only two bosses we got down that night were Shannox and Baleroc. Even though there were many unhappy with the decision of 25 mans and a few whose computers couldn't even handle it. Its wasn't so bad after all. However, it seems 25 mans are a thing of the future. And the decision came down to running not one but two 10 man groups. Best of all, Lords of Havoc is very happy to have new guildies and great players to run along with. Welcome players of Mixed Nutz to Lords of Havoc! I hope you enjoy your stay~ ^^

Third times a charm

Woot Lasciel got to level 85!
Lasciel
Well after about a week my Paladin has finally hit level 85. Woooo! Yet, sadly now I'm faced with a problem. What do I spec her? I like the healing role in general but Holy Paladins have a HUGE skill curve with no good gear. Tanking isn't bad in dungeons but can I handle it raiding? What about Ret Paladins... do I want to be DPSing again? I just wish I could do all three. But I'm sure it would get crazy trying to manage the gear. So as of right now, I'm going with the easiest way to get gear. Fail DPSing through Heroic Dungeons. The worse that can happen is the mob takes extra time to get down. It's not like I'm killing anyone if I fail. ^^ -huge grin-

Another One Bites the Dust

Woot another Firelands Achievement!

Another group picture for Ragnaros
Raid tonight was very short due to the fact we only had to do two attempts before we downing Ragnaros tonight. So due to the amount of time we also did 25 man Obsidian Sanctum. Sadly Predator did not get his drake once again. -smallest violin- Lol.

The night of achievements. XD

The Final Countdown

So this is how we did tonight in raid... I think pictures speak louder than words. Maybe not louder than Tahnaya >> (Just Kidding!!! <3)

Downing Majordomo (Sadly not Heroic)

Downing Ragnaros makes it raid. XD

LORDS OF HAVOC FOR THE WIN!

OMG Naga.... RUN TOPI!!!
Also, tonight after the raid we decided to go down to Obsidian Sanctum to get the Twilight Drake on 25 Man. Guess who got it? Me :3! And it's my first Drake on Almirmiel.

On the Twilight Drake watching the Legendary Staff celebration. Congrats to Art of Ruin.

A Group Effort

"Evo, I think I'm falling for you." Said by Almir as she falls to her dead infront of Evo.
Lords of Havoc
So I decided that as much as I speak about my guild I have never really given it's proper introduction. I'm doing this for my fellow guildies that deserve the spotlight as well.

 My current raid group (Mon/Wed):

Of course, raids spots are always changing based on who is on at the time but for the most part the make up looks something like this. From the top left to bottom right:

Tanks - Deltour, Void
DPS - Tahnaya, Bhain, Predator, Kormogon, Nozgoul
Healers - Topi, Arodoth, Almirmiel

UGH There Again

Ilvl of 309 already.
Lasciel
I don't know how many times I say this... but, I hate questing. >< With a burning fiery passion. And yet again, here we are. I would love to be able to go through Cataclysm and not have to worry about rep. But oh dear god is it sooooooo important for gearing up and enchants. So, as much as I bitch and cry about it, I have to do them. </3 I did however manage to get my Mining up to 525 AND Blacksmithing up to just under 500 in two days. I was able to gear myself up enough to get into the first Cataclysm Dungeons. From there I just kept winning all the tanking gear I could of ever wished for. Lol. I feel it already this character is going to be lucky.

Almirmiel
She will get two updates today, one now and then one after the raid this evening. -smiles- SO speaking of Raid, we will be working on Heroic Majordomo tonight. And for everyone curious (or in guild and has yet to see the link) this will be the strategy we will be trying tonight:

If anyone has a better strategy that you think works better than this one, please leave a comment to let me know or in-game mail me at Almirmiel - Suramar.

Avenging a Fallen Paladin

Woot, I'm now level 80!
Awe look at that crap armor, such a cute wanna-be Tankadin.
Lasciel
Well its offical I'm am now leveling a Tankadin. ^^ What's the main reason I do anything? I do it because people fail at doing it. I leveled my Healer because there was nothing but crappy healers. Now, I'm leveling a Tank so that there is another good tank out there. (Perhaps to replace Evo's fail tanking skills. XP) I doubt she will be to Almir's raid quality for quite sometime. But if nothing else, I will have another 85! Wooooot! Plus, with following in Remy's footsteps she will be a Miner and Jewelcrafter. And it's amusing both of our Paladin's are named after characters from within The Dresden Files books. I think our favorite ones at that too. <3

Almirmiel
Tonight was of course raid night with Lords of Havoc. It wasn't a half bad run tonight. Got Heroic Shannox down and got all the way up to Majordomo. We did a few attempts at Heroic Majordomo before calling it a night. However, I did get an off-spec trinket. It will greatly help to replace my healing-only trinket when running in Shadow Spec. Let alone with all valor I got tonight I will be able to buy a piece of DPS Tier 12. Yay, progress!

Thoughts and Theories on the New Expansion

Woot go first video post. Yay! As you can probably tell it was not scripted and it was just a ramble of thoughts. I will be doing more of this and hopefully ones that are MUCH better than the one above. Oh and a note on the person in the background that's my Fiance'. He too used to play World of War-crack but then stopped due to frustration and boredom. I'm still trying to get him to come back. I'm very envious of the couples that play together, they can make such great teams. But anyhow...

I'm probably not going to play a Monk but I sure will make a Shaman Panda. And for the first time ever a neutral race... if you want to call it that. You know because they can't truly be neutral got to pick sides at level 10. Wooo 10 levels. I do guess it is a big step though. Would hate to throw a Feral Druid in cold water, right? (I know mine hates water... just ask the shower curtains, they are full of holes from claws.)

Well unfortunately it is time for me to head to work again... Happy Halloween everyone!

Long time away...

Well I haven't been away from World of Warcraft at all just here. I stopped posting because I would do the typical raid and log off. But tonight I actually have a bit of time to spare. So tonight I just finished Firelands on Normal Mode with Fragment.

Achievement of Firelands
Not only did I get to be part of a Rag kill I also got loot: [Majordomo's Chain of Office]. My gear is now item level 376 with 4 set Tier 12.

4 Set Holy Priest.
I'm currently still in Lords of Havoc even though for the last week I was running with Fragment. Hopefully in the near future my work schedule and raid schedule can get along. I'm currently battling tooth and nail each week to try and get them to get along.

Pwning Some Noobs

Discussing the Strats.

I'm usually always in the top 5 in BGs.
Just got internet back after several days without it. I was going insane from boredom. I decided after a hard night of work I wanted to kick back and relax. And you know Pwns some Noobs. -smiles- I'm loving Pvping on my Hunter. But tonight I get serious and get caught up Valor Capping on Almirmiel. Until then I'm going to sleep. Good night and sweet dreaming of those Honor Kills. Zzzz.

A New Find

I just had to share this on my blog. This was me when I was just sitting in DC. Enjoy~

I'm loving these videos, I plan to post my favorites. So keep an eye out for them.

-Melts-

I am offically a Raider for Lords of Havoc!
Almirmiel
Woot woot! -does happy dance- I can't believe it, I finally have a 'Raider' position in a guild. Before I always just raided for them, I never got a nifty title or awesome perks. (Which I will probably never use cause I will forget to. That and I don't feel right taking other people's things when I can just go get my own.) -sooooo happy right now- And to make it better I even had raid in 15 mins, it's only BoT and BWD but its a chance for some Upgrades! As well as delicious Valor Points.

A few Screen shots from our Raid tonight.

We unfortunately did not get Nef down this week. I did however get to run with one of my old guild leaders, Voe from University of Suramar. It was an interesting surprise, good none the less. Hopefully next week we are going to start on Heroics. -smiles- Time to do homework and read up on the game mechanics. And I can't believe that I am already Valor Capped for this week and it's only Wedneday. ><

Healing Improvement

-does Tim Allen's strange laugh-

Second in Heals on the new BH Boss.

Read the chat log, then look at the Recount meter.

Second piece of Tier 12.
Almirmiel
It's mind blowing how quick I'm getting to the top. Before I was depressed that I thought I could never be good or big man on the totem pole. And this is to show EVERY player out there. Work for it, be dedicated, and you will get there. The only thing I have to work on with my heals is getting them placed right. My healing per second is being slowed down because of me as a player having to 'click' to use that spell. Over the next few days (perhaps week, I hope it doesn't take that long) I'm going to perfect trying to use just the keyboard. I would go out and buy one of those 16 button mouses but sadly there are other things I need to use that money for, like paying the bills or feeding the pets. So I got to use what I have right now. You can only expect better from me, never worse.

I'm Terrible With Names

(Creeto named my blog post. Lmao.)
This is Creeto and I once again, having some fun outside of Orgrimmar. Enjoy~

The new and improved Creeto.

<3 Jeeves

SOOO ANGRY ><

We are smexy. -winks-

This is my new desktop background.
